Barack Obama has been commemorated in thescientific names of at least 14 species, the most of any U.S. president.[1][2]

Animals

However, the genus nameObama (flatworm)[8] and in particular the invasive speciesObama nungara[9] were not named after Barack Obama. The name "Obama" in this case is a coincidence and is derived from theTupi language (which is spoken in the same area where the flatworm was discovered) where it comes from the words "oba" ("leaf") and "ma" ("animal"), which is a reference to the body shape of species in this genus.[8]
