Municipal reorganisations [ edit ] Since 1840, South Holland has ceded five municipalities to the province ofUtrecht :Oudewater in 1970,Woerden in 1989,Vianen in 2002,Leerdam andZederik in 2019.

On 1 January 2002 the municipalities ofPijnacker andNootdorp were merged into the new municipality ofPijnacker-Nootdorp . On 1 January 2002 the municipalities ofLeidschendam andVoorburg were merged into the new municipality ofLeidschendam-Voorburg . On 1 January 2002 the municipality ofVianen became a part of the province of Utrecht. On 1 January 2003 the municipality ofHeerjansdam was merged into the existing municipality ofZwijndrecht . On 1 January 2004 the municipalities ofDe Lier ,'s-Gravenzande ,Monster ,Naaldwijk andWateringen were merged into the new municipality ofWestland On 1 January 2004 the municipalities ofMaasland andSchipluiden were merged into the new municipality ofMidden-Delfland . On 1 January 2006 the municipalities ofSassenheim ,Voorhout andWarmond were merged into the new municipality ofTeylingen . On 1 January 2007 the municipalities ofLiemeer andTer Aar were merged into the existing municipality ofNieuwkoop . On 1 January 2007 the municipalities ofBergschenhoek ,Berkel en Rodenrijs andBleiswijk were merged into the new municipality ofLansingerland . On 1 January 2007 the municipality of's-Gravendeel was merged into the existing municipality ofBinnenmaas . On 1 January 2009 the municipalities ofAlkemade andJacobswoude were merged into the new municipality ofKaag en Braassem . On 1 January 2010 the municipalities ofMoordrecht ,Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel andZevenhuizen-Moerkapelle were merged into the new municipality ofZuidplas . On 18 March 2010 the municipality ofRozenburg was merged into the existing municipality ofRotterdam . On 1 January 2011 the municipalities ofBodegraven andReeuwijk were merged into the new municipality ofBodegraven-Reeuwijk . On 1 January 2013 the municipalities ofGraafstroom ,Liesveld andNieuw-Lekkerland were merged into the new municipality ofMolenwaard . On 1 January 2019 the municipalities ofBinnenmaas ,Cromstrijen ,Korendijk ,Oud-Beijerland andStrijen were merged intoHoeksche Waard .
