Here is a list of mergers inShizuoka Prefecture,Japan since the Heisei era.

On April 1, 2004 - The former cities ofShimizu andShizuoka were merged to create the designated city ofShizuoka. The former city of Shimizu is co-extensive to currentShimizu-ku.
On April 1, 2004 - The former town of Omaezaki (fromHaibara District) absorbed the town ofHamaoka (fromOgasa District) to create the city ofOmaezaki.
On April 1, 2004 - The towns ofAmagiyugashima,Nakaizu,Shuzenji andToi (all fromTagata District) were merged to create the city ofIzu.
On January 17, 2005 - The former town Kikugawa absorbed the town ofOgasa (both fromOgasa District) to create the city ofKikugawa.
On April 1, 2005 - The towns ofIzunagaoka,Nirayama andOhito (all fromTagata District) were merged to create the city ofIzunokuni.
On April 1, 2005 - The village ofKamo (fromKamo District) was merged into the expanded town ofNishiizu.
On April 1, 2005 - The town ofAsaba (fromIwata District) was merged into the expanded city ofFukuroi.
On April 1, 2005 - The old city ofKakegawa absorbed the towns ofDaitō andŌsuka (both fromOgasa District) to create the new and expanded city ofKakegawa.Ogasa District was dissolved as a result of this merger.
On April 1, 2005 - The old city ofIwata absorbed the towns ofFukude,Ryūyō andToyoda, and the village ofToyooka (all fromIwata District) to create the new and expanded city ofIwata.
On April 1, 2005 - The village ofHeda (fromTagata District) was merged into the expanded city ofNumazu.
On May 5, 2005 - the old city ofShimada absorbed the town ofKanaya (fromHaibara District) to create the new and expanded city ofShimada (2nd one).
On July 1, 2005 - The old city ofHamamatsu absorbed the cities ofTenryū andHamakita, the town ofHaruno (fromShūchi District), the towns ofHosoe,Inasa andMikkabi (all fromInasa District), the towns ofMisakubo andSakuma, the village ofTatsuyama (all fromIwata District), and the towns ofMaisaka andYūtō (both fromHamana District) to create the new and all merged into the expanded city ofHamamatsu.Inasa District andIwata District were both dissolved as a result of this merger and also there are no more villages left in Shizuoka Prefecture as a result of this merger.
On September 20, 2005 - The towns ofHonkawane andNakakawane (both fromHaibara District) were merged to create the town ofKawanehon.
On October 11, 2005 - The towns ofHaibara andSagara (both fromHaibara District) were merged to create the city ofMakinohara.
On March 1, 2006 - The town ofKanbara (fromIhara District) was merged into the expanded city ofShizuoka, specifically atShimizu-ku.
On April 1, 2008 - The town ofKawane (fromHaibara District) was merged into the expanded city ofShimada (2nd one).
On November 1, 2008 - The town ofFujikawa (fromIhara District) was merged into the expanded city ofFuji.
On November 1, 2008 - the town ofYui (fromIhara District) was merged into the expanded city ofShizuoka, specifically atShimizu-ku.Ihara District was dissolved as a result of this merger.
On November 1, 2008 - The town ofŌigawa (fromShida District) was merged into the expanded city ofYaizu; leavingShida District with one municipality.
On January 1, 2009 - The town ofOkabe (fromShida District) was merged into the expanded city ofFujieda.Shida District was dissolved as a result of this merger.
On March 23, 2010 - The town ofShibakawa (fromFuji District) was merged into the expanded city ofFujinomiya.Fuji District was dissolved as a result of this merger.
On March 23, 2010 - The town ofArai (fromHamana District) was merged into the expanded city ofKosai.Hamana District was dissolved as a result of this merger.
