This is a list ofheads of state ofAlbania who have served since theDeclaration of Independence of 1912.
Since thecollapse of the communist regime in 1991, the head of state of Albania is thepresident of the republic.[a] The president isindirectly elected to a five-year term and is limited to a maximum of two terms, as specified by theConstitution. As in mostparliamentary systems, the president is now by-and-large aceremonial office, with theprime ministerde facto heading theexecutive branch.[1]
