Egypt is atranscontinental country spanning thenortheast corner of Africa andsouthwest corner of Asia by aland bridge formed by theSinai Peninsula. Egypt's economy depends mainly on agriculture, media, petroleum imports, natural gas, and tourism; there are also more than three million Egyptians working abroad, mainly inSaudi Arabia, thePersian Gulf and Europe. The completion of theAswan High Dam in 1970 and the resultantLake Nasser have altered the time-honoured place of the Nile River in the agriculture and ecology of Egypt. A rapidly growing population, limitedarable land, and dependence on the Nile all continue to overtax resources and stress the economy.^{[citation needed]}
