This is alist of notable chocolate drinks.Chocolate is a processed, typically sweetenedfood produced from the seed of the tropicalTheobroma cacao tree. Its earliest documented use is by theOlmecs of south central Mexico around 1100 BC. The majority ofMesoamerican people made chocolate beverages, including theMaya andAztecs.[1]

Taxonomically,Theobroma cacao tree is a member of the Malvaceae or simply the mallow family initially known as the Sterculiaceae.
