Directed byAnthony and Joe Russo and written byChristopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the film features anensemble cast includingRobert Downey Jr.,Chris Hemsworth,Mark Ruffalo,Chris Evans,Scarlett Johansson,Benedict Cumberbatch,Don Cheadle,Tom Holland,Chadwick Boseman,Paul Bettany,Elizabeth Olsen,Anthony Mackie,Sebastian Stan,Danai Gurira,Letitia Wright,Dave Bautista,Zoe Saldaña,Josh Brolin, andChris Pratt. In the film, theAvengers and theGuardians of the Galaxy attempt to preventThanos from collecting the six all-powerfulInfinity Stones as part of his quest to kill half of all life in the universe.[1][2]

Avengers: Infinity War premiered inHollywood, Los Angeles, on April 23, 2018,[3][4] and was released in the United States on April 27,[5] as part ofPhase Three of the MCU.[6] Produced on a budget of $325–400 million,[7][8] it was the fourth film and thefirst superhero film to gross over $2 billion worldwide,[9][10] breaking numerousbox office records,[11] and becoming thehighest-grossing film of 2018 and thefourth-highest-grossing film of all time both worldwide andin the United States and Canada.[9][12][13] On thereview aggregator websiteRotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 85% based on 492 reviews.[14]

Avengers: Infinity War garnered awards and nominations in various categories with particular recognition for its acting (mainly that of Brolin) and visual effects. It received a nomination forBest Visual Effects at the91st Academy Awards. The film received a nomination forOutstanding Achievement for Character Animation in a Live Action Production at the46th Annie Awards. At the72nd British Academy Film Awards,Avengers: Infinity War was nominated forBest Special Visual Effects. It received two nominations at the24th Critics' Choice Awards. ComposerAlan Silvestri received a nomination forBest Instrumental Composition at theGrammy Awards'61st ceremony. The film won one of two nominations at the45th Saturn Awards.
