As of fall 2023, theUniversity of Michigan employs 8,189 faculty members at the Ann Arbor campus,[1][2] including 44 living members of theNational Academy of Sciences,[3] 63 living members of theNational Academy of Medicine,[4] 28 living members of theNational Academy of Engineering,[5] 98 living members of theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences,[6] 17 living members of theAmerican Philosophical Society,[7] and 129Sloan Research Fellows.[8]

The Ann Arbor campus's faculty comprises 3,195tenured and tenure-track faculty,[1] 72 faculty classified as "instructional not-on-track" faculty,[1] 1,157 faculty classified as lecturers,[1] 2,525 regular clinical instructional faculty,[1] and 220 supplemental faculty,[1] and 117 emeritus/a faculty;[1] additionally, there are 871 faculty members serving as research faculty, librarians, curators, or archivists.[1]

The university employs 18,422 regular and 5,745 supplemental staff members at its Ann Arbor campus, and another 20,158 regular and 1,317 supplemental staff members at its hospital.[1] Supplemental staff counts included 4,476 job titles held by students, including graduate student instructor, research assistant, and staff assistant positions.[1]
