The Boys is an Americansatiricalsuperhero television series developed by showrunnerEric Kripke that premiered on July 26, 2019, on the streaming serviceAmazon Prime Video. Kripke also serves as anexecutive producer, alongsideEvan Goldberg,Neal H. Moritz, andSeth Rogen.[1][2] Based on thecomic book of the same name byGarth Ennis andDarick Robertson, it follows the eponymous team ofvigilantes as they attempt to take down The Seven, a team ofsuperpowered individuals who abuse their powers.[3][4]
Originally intended to be afeature-length filmtrilogy, the comic book series adaptation began its development in 2008 withAdam McKay set to direct, until a series of creative differences led to the project's cancellation until it was revived in 2016 as a television series.[2][5]The Boys is headlined byJack Quaid,Antony Starr, andKarl Urban;[6][7] the series also starsLaz Alonso,Tomer Capone,Chace Crawford,Dominique McElligott,Erin Moriarty,Karen Fukuhara,Elisabeth Shue,Jessie T. Usher.[6][8]The Boys premiered on July 26, 2019. With the exception of thefirst season, which released every episode on the same day,[9] episodes are released on a weekly basis with each season premiering its first three episodes for the remainder of the series.[10][11][3]
As of July 18, 2024,[update] 32 episodes ofThe Boys have aired, concluding the fourth season. A month before the fourth season released, the series was renewed for a fifth season, which was later confirmed to be its last.[12][13][14] The fifth season is expected to premiere on April 8, 2026.[15]
