Thislist of Brigham Young University alumni includes notable graduates, non-graduate former students, and current students ofBrigham Young University (BYU), aprivate,coeducationalresearch university owned bythe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) located inProvo, Utah,United States. It is the oldest existing institution within the LDSChurch Educational System, is America's largest religious university, and has the second-largestprivate university enrollment in the United States.[1][2][3] Approximately 98% of the 34,000 students at BYU are members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; two-thirds of its American students come from outside the state ofUtah.[4] In addition to its undergraduate program, BYU offers graduate degrees in 47 departments and includes two professional schools: theMarriott School of Business and theJ. Reuben Clark Law School.[5] As of 2023[update], BYU has 455,907 living alumni.[6]

Over 26 BYU graduates have served in theU.S. Senate andU.S. House of Representatives, such as formerDean of the U.S. SenateReed Smoot (class of 1876).[7] Cabinet members of American presidents include formerUnited States Secretary of Agriculture to PresidentDwight D. Eisenhower,Ezra Taft Benson '26 andRex E. Lee '60, who wasU.S. Solicitor General under PresidentRonald Reagan.Mitt Romney, formerGovernor of Massachusetts and2008 presidential candidate and2012 Republican presidential nominee, wasvaledictorian of his class in 1971.[citation needed]

BYU alumni in academia include former dean of theHarvard Business SchoolKim B. Clark, a vice president of Yale,Scott Strobel '87, andMichael K. Young '73, president ofTexas A&M University and former president of theUniversity of Washington. The university also graduatedNobel Prize winnerPaul D. Boyer, as well asPhilo Farnsworth (inventor of the electronic television) andHarvey Fletcher (inventor of the hearing aid). Seven of BYU's twelve presidents were alumni of the university.[8] Alumni of BYU who have served as business leaders includeCitigroupCFOGary Crittenden '76, formerDellCEOKevin Rollins '84,Deseret Book CEOSheri L. Dew, and Matthew K. McCauley, CEO of children's clothing companyGymboree.

In literature and journalism, BYU has produced several best-selling authors, includingOrson Scott Card '75,Brandon Sanderson '00 & '05, andStephenie Meyer '95. Other media personalities includeESPN sportscaster and formerMiss AmericaSharlene Wells Hawkes '88 and former co-host ofCBS'sThe Early ShowJane Clayson Johnson '90. In entertainment and television, BYU is represented byJon Heder '02 (best known for his role asNapoleon Dynamite), Golden Globe-nominatedAaron Eckhart '94, andJeopardy! all-time championKen Jennings '00. In the music industry BYU is represented by formerAmerican Idol contestantCarmen Rasmusen andThe Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square directorMack Wilberg.

BYU has also produced several leaders of religion. Alumni have comprised severalGeneral Authorities ofthe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including two church presidents (Thomas S. Monson '74 andEzra Taft Benson '26), six apostles (Neil L. Andersen,D. Todd Christofferson '69,David A. Bednar '76,Jeffrey R. Holland '65 & '66,Dallin H. Oaks '54, andReed Smoot 1876), and two GeneralRelief Society Presidents (Julie B. Beck '73 andBelle Spafford '20).[9]

A number of BYU alumni have found success in professional sports, representing the university in 7MLBWorld Series, 5NBA Finals, and 25NFLSuper Bowls.[10] In baseball, BYU alumni includeAll-StarsRick Aguilera '83,Wally Joyner '84, andJack Morris '76. Professional basketball players include three-timeNBA Finals championDanny Ainge '81 and three-timeOlympic medalistKrešimir Ćosić '73. BYU also claims notable professional football players including Super Bowl MVPSteve Young '84 & '94,Heisman Trophy winnerTy Detmer '90, and two-time Super Bowl winnerJim McMahon. In golf, BYU alumni include twomajor championship winners:Johnny Miller ('69) at the 1973 U.S. Open and 1976 British Open andMike Weir ('92) at the 2003 Masters.
