Batwoman is an Americansuperhero television series created byCaroline Dries which ran for three seasons onThe CW.[1][2] It is set in theArrowverse, sharing continuity with other related television series. Based on theeponymous character fromDC Comics, thefirst season followsKate Kane (Ruby Rose), the cousin of vigilanteBruce Wayne / Batman, who becomes Batwoman in his absence. The final two seasons focus onRyan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) as she protects Gotham City in the role of Batwoman.[3][4]

Alongside Rose,Batwoman starsElizabeth Anweis,Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang,Dougray Scott,Rachel Skarsten, andMeagan Tandy.[5] Anweis's character was killed off in the first season's midseason finale, "A Mad Tea-Party".[6] In May of 2020, Rose announced her departure from the series. In June, Leslie was cast as Ryan Wilder, an original character, to replace her.[3][7] Scott departed in the 16th episode ofseason two, "Rebirth".[8][9] In thethird season,Victoria Cartagena, Nick Creegan, andRobin Givens joined the main cast, with Cartagena reprising her role as Renee Montoya from the unrelatedFox seriesGotham.[10][11]

During the course of the series, 51 episodes ofBatwoman aired over three seasons.[12] The first season premiered on October 6, 2019 and concluded May 17, 2020. It was renewed for a second season in January.[13] Season two aired from January 17, 2021, through June 27. A third season was ordered in February.[14] Season three ran from October 13 through March 2, 2022.[15] A fourth season was in development,[16] but was canceled followingNexstar Media Group's acquisition of The CW.[2][17]
