Lipoatrophy is the term describing the localized loss offat tissue. This may occur as a result of subcutaneous injections ofinsulin in the treatment ofdiabetes, from the use ofhuman growth hormone or from subcutaneous injections ofcopaxone used for the treatment ofmultiple sclerosis. In the latter case, an injection may produce a small dent at the injection site.[1] Lipoatrophy occurs inHIV-associated lipodystrophy, one cause of which is anadverse drug reaction that is associated with someantiretroviral medications.[2]
