Lionel Boyce (born May 9, 1991[3][4]), also known asL-Boy, is an American actor, writer, producer, and former musician. He is best known for appearing in the TV seriesThe Bear and being a member of music collectiveOdd Future.

Early and personal life

Boyce, who is ofAfrican American heritage, grew up inInglewood, California.[5][6] His father was anArrowhead Water delivery driver, and his mother was anL.A. sheriff.[7] He worked atHollister Co. and played football.[2][5] He attendedWestchester High School, where he befriendedTyler, the Creator in a theater class.[8] He enjoys playingchess.[7]

Career

A past member ofalternative hip hopmusical collectiveOdd Future, he co-created the 2012sketch comedy television seriesLoiter Squad.[1][2] In 2015, Boyce andTyler, the Creator formed Bald Fade Productions.[9] Among other things, he and Tyler created the animated seriesThe Jellies![10][9][6]

Boyce playsMarcus Brooks, a sensitive, silent and kind-heartedpastry chef,[1][11] in thecomedy-drama television seriesThe Bear.[10][12] He received aPrimetime Emmy Award nomination for the series. Before shootingThe Bear, Boyce observed a day atTartine bakery in Los Angeles, and spent two weeksstaging at Hart Bageri inCopenhagen.[5][6][13] Additionally, before shooting the episode "Honeydew", he did a lot of training with Courtney Storer, the show's culinary producer.[14]

Early 2024, Boyce helpedDaiya launch itscheese dupe Fromage Forgery.[15][16] Around that time, he also joined the cast of the upcomingthriller filmShell.[17] Later that year, he teamed up withEarl Sweatshirt for collaborative effort "DJ Billy Jole".[18]

On 31 July 2025,Kendrick Lamar andDave Free's multidisciplinary creative communications companyPGLang announcedProject 3, their newest branch and creative agency. The announcement was released along with a short film titledThe Agency, starringChase Sui Wonders and Boyce, directed by Jack Begert, who co-wrote it alongside Free.[19][20]
