Linzhou (Chinese:林州;pinyin:Línzhōu), formerlyLin County orLinxian (simplified Chinese:林县;traditional Chinese:林縣;pinyin:Lín Xiàn), is acounty-level city inAnyang,Henan, China. Adjacent toShanxi Province andHebei Province, it is located in the northernmost part of Henan Province and at the eastern foot of theTaihang Mountains. It covers an area of 2046 square kilometers and has a population of about one million.[3]
Linzhou is well known for itsRed Flag Canal, which was constructed in the 1960s and visited byItalian film directorMichelangelo Antonioni during the early 1970s.
As of 2012, this city is divided into 20 township-level administrative divisions, including 4subdistricts, 13 towns, and 3 townships.[4]
