Linux bootloader
Limine is a portableboot loader and the reference implementation for the Limine boot protocol.[ 4] [ 5] Multiboot2 ,chainloading , and theLinux boot protocols are also supported. Limine supports theISO-9660 andFAT filesystems.[ 6] [ 7]
Limine aims to provide a more robust alternative to bootloaders likeGNU GRUB ,[ 8] as well as its own boot protocol as an alternative to theMultiboot specification , with the goal of reducing the amount of work needed for a kernel developer to get a workable 64-bit environment once booted.[ 4]
Limine is packaged by severalLinux distributions , being offered byArch Linux , where it is an option in archinstall,[ 9] [ 10] [ 11] [ 12] [ 13] [ 14] as well as included in EasyOS[ 15] (a derivative ofPuppy Linux [ 16] ),CachyOS ,[ 17] [ 18] ,Chimera Linux ,[ 19] andKaOS .[ 20] [ 21] [ 22] Limine is also used byCosmos [ 23] and supported bySerenityOS .[ 24]
