Life After Flash is a 2017 Britishdocumentary film directed, produced and edited by Lisa Downs.

It chronicles the making of the 1980 film version ofFlash Gordon and its eventualcult following, with particular focus placed on how the life and career of the film's lead,Sam J. Jones (who also served as an executive producer on this film), was affected by his falling-out with producerDino De Laurentiis. Aside from Jones, the film features interviews with cast membersMelody Anderson,Brian Blessed,Topol,Peter Wyngarde,Richard O'Brien,Deep Roy andPeter Duncan, composersBrian May andHoward Blake, De Laurentiis' widowMartha, comic book creatorsStan Lee,Alex Ross andMark Millar, filmmakerRobert Rodriguez, and actorPatrick St. Esprit.[1]

Life After Flash had its world premiere atChattanooga Film Festival,[2] followed by the European Premiere at the72nd Edinburgh International Film Festival.[3]

On thereview aggregator websiteRotten Tomatoes, 88% of eight critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.8/10.[4]

Writing forForbes, Kristen Lopez said "Lisa Downs presents a film that says there is life afterFlash Gordon and it's a pretty good life, all things considered!"[5]Mark Millar described the film as "hilarious, moving and just maybe the best doc about Hollywood I've ever seen".[6]C. Robert Cargill commented the documentary is "essential film geek viewing", noting that it's "touching, sweet, hilarious, and just plain cool".[7]
