Li Pengxin (Chinese:李鹏新; born December 1960) is a formerChinese politician. As of December 2023 he was under investigation by China's top graft busters.[1] Previously he served asdeputy party secretary of theXinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.[1]
He was a representative of the19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party.
Li was born inShenchi County,Shanxi, in December 1960.[2] After theCultural Revolution in 1977, he taught atDelingha Farm Middle School.[2] After resuming the college entrance examination, in 1979, he enrolled atQinghai Normal University, where he majored in Chinese.[2]
Li got involved in politics in September 1983, when he was appointed an official inZhidoi County innorthwest China'sQinghai province.[2] He joined theChinese Communist Party (CCP) in September 1984.[2] He was eventually promoted to deputy magistrate in December 1985.[2]
He served as deputy head of theOrganization Department of the Qinghai Provincial Committee of theCommunist Youth League of China in January 1990, and a year later promoted to the head position.[2] In November 1991, he became deputy secretary of the Qinghai Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, rising to secretary in January 1997.[2]
He wasdeputy party secretary ofHaixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in November 1999, in addition to serving asparty secretary ofGolmud.[2] He was appointed party secretary of the prefecture in August 2005 and was admitted to member of the CCP Qinghai Provincial Committee, the province's top authority.[2] He was secretary of thePolitical and Legal Affairs Commission of the CCP Qinghai Provincial Committee in January 2007, and held that office until October 2011.[2]
He was made head of theOrganization Department of the CCP Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Committee in October 2011 and was admitted to member of the CCP Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Committee, the region's top authority.[2]
He was chosen asdeputy party secretary of theXinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in September 2016, concurrently serving as secretary of the Education Work Committee of the CCP Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee and secretary-general of the CCP Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee.[2][3]
On 11 December 2023, Li was put under investigation for alleged "serious violations of discipline and laws" by theCentral Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), the party's internal disciplinary body, and theNational Supervisory Commission, the highest anti-corruption agency of China.[4][5]
On 17 June 2024, Li was expelled from the CCP and dismissed from public office.[6]
