Lestrem (French pronunciation:[letʁɛm];Dutch:De Stroom;Picard:Létrin) is acommune in thePas-de-Calaisdepartment in the Hauts-de-Franceregion of France.[3] about 8 miles (13 km) north ofBéthune and 19 miles (31 km) west ofLille by the banks of the Lawe River.
In 1940 thehamlet of Le Paradis, on the south side of the commune, was the site of theLe Paradis massacre of British troops of theBEF, during theBattle of France.
