Rute is a populated area, asocken (not to be confused withparish), on the Swedish island ofGotland.[3] It comprises the same area as theadministrative Rute District, established on 1 January 2016.[4]
Rute is situated on the northeast coast of Gotland.[5] Rute comprises several of the smaller islands off the coast of Gotland, such asFurillen andSkenholmen. Along the coastline areValleviken harbor and beach as well asLergravfishing village. Inland is the north part ofLake Fardume (Fardume träsk), at 3.5 km2 (1.4 sq mi) it is the third largest lake on Gotland afterLake Bästeträsk andLake Tingstäde.[6] ThemedievalRute Church is located in Rute.[7]
As of 2019[update], Rute Church belongs to Bunge-Rute-Fleringeparish in Norra Gotlandspastorat, along with the churches inBunge andFleringe.[8][9]
One of theasteroids in theasteroid belt,10106 Lergrav, isnamed after Lergrav in Rute.[10]
