Leonard Wong (born 30 December 1958)[1] is a ResearchProfessor ofMilitary Strategy (Human and Organizational Dimensions) in theStrategic Studies Institute at theU.S. Army War College, who focuses on thehuman and organizational dimensions of themilitary,[2] and is a published author on leadership strategy.

Wong was born inNew York State and raised inPennsylvania.[1] He is a registered professionalengineer and holds aBachelor of Science from theUnited States Military Academy in 1980, and an M.S.B.A. andPh.D. fromTexas Tech University. His 1992 doctoral thesis was onThe effects of cohesion on organizational performance: a test of two models using performance data of unit battles at the U.S. Army'sNational Training Center, Fort Irwin, California.[3] Wong joined the Strategic Studies Institute in July 2000 after serving 20 years in theUnited States Army, reaching the rank oflieutenant colonel. His army career included assignments teaching leadership atWest Point, serving as an analyst in the Office of theChief of Staff of the United States Army and in theOffice of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, and serving as the Director of the Office of Economic and Manpower Analysis (OEMA).[4] He has authored several articles, chapters, and papers on organizational issues in the Army such asdownsizing,leadership,junior officer retention,professionalism, and innovation in the military.

His published research has led him to locations such asIraq,Afghanistan,Kosovo,Bosnia, andVietnam and has been highlighted inmedia such asThe New York Times,[5]The Wall Street Journal,[6]Washington Post,[7]The New Yorker,[8]CNN,[9]NPR,[10]PBS,[11] and60 Minutes.[12]
