Simon Leo Reinisch or justLeo Reinisch (26 October 1832 inOsterwitz – 24 December 1919 inMaria Lankowitz) was anAustrianlinguist,Egyptologist,Africanist andprofessor at theUniversity of Vienna.[1][2]
In 1854 Reinisch began studyinghistory,philology,Sanskrit,Hebrew,Arabic andCoptic at theUniversity of Vienna. In 1873, the same university granted him a full professorship inEgyptian antiquity (Ägyptische Altertumskunde), the first chair forEgyptology inAustria.[1] He also worked as the personal secretary to theKaiser inMexico.[2]
16 years after Reinisch's death, theReinischgasse street inVienna-Döbling was named after him.[1]
