Seamount in the Pacific Ocean
Lemkein is aseamount in theWestern Pacific Ocean , west ofKwajalein .[ 1]
It is part of theMagellan Seamounts [ 2] and is avolcanic seamount covered with sediments.Ferromanganese crusts occur in some places.[ 3] Basalts in the form ofpillow lavas altered toclay andzeoliths have been recovered from Lemkein.[ 4] Like other Magellan Seamounts, it formed south of the equator and was moved to its present-day position byplate tectonics .[ 5]
