Lee Muller Thomas (born June 13, 1944) is an American government official who was Administrator of theUnited States Environmental Protection Agency from 1985 to 1989 under PresidentRonald Reagan.[1]

Biography

Thomas attendedVirginia Episcopal School and earned hisMasters in Education from theUniversity of South Carolina, where he did postgraduate work inpsychology. He received hisBachelor of Arts degree in psychology from theUniversity of the South inSewanee, Tennessee.

He went on to become president and chief operating officer ofGeorgia-Pacific Corporation in 2005.

He was appointed president and chief executive officer ofRayonier, Inc. on March 1, 2007, and became chairman on July 1, 2007.

He succeededWilliam Ruckelshaus. He is a Republican.[2]

Thomas led the EPA when the reportUnfinished Business: A Comparative Assessment of Environmental Problems was released.

In 2008, Thomas served as a member of the board of directors for the following entities:Airgas, Inc., theRegal Entertainment Group, theFederal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, theWorld Resources Institute,[3] theAmerican Forest and Paper Association, andDuPont.[4]
