Leander Øy (born 24 October 2003) is aNorwegianfootball goalkeeper who plays forMjøndalen, on loan fromSarpsborg 08.
Hailing fromÅrdal Municipality, he is a son of Ivan Øy and brother ofEdin Øy, both footballers. In the summer of 2019 he was brought fromIL Jotun toSarpsborg 08, having been spotted in training for the alternate youth national team.[1][2] He attended St. Olav Upper Secondary School and played for the junior team, but when he started training with Sarpsborg 08's first team in early 2021, he was not allowed to attend school due to theCOVID-19 protocols.[3]
Going into 2022, he was the third-choice goalkeeper. In July 2022, he suddenly got his first team debut whenAnders Kristiansen was unavailable and reserveSimen Vidtun Nilsen was sent off.[4] He played bothleague andcup matches in the first half of 2023.[5] In addition, he was selected forNorway U21 and made his international debut againstScotland.[6][7]
