Layered, Inc., was an Americansoftware company based inBoston,Massachusetts. The company chiefly developed forApple'sMacintosh computer. At the time of its acquisition in 1990 byPeachtree Software, ofNorcross, Georgia, Layered was considered the market leader inaccounting software for the Mac,[1] withInfoWorld calling Layered "theRolls-Royce of Macintosh accounting software".[2] It marketed the Insight Expert Accounting family of software in 1985 and atOnce! in 1989,[3][4] the latter rebranded as Peachtree Accounting for Macintosh after the company's acquisition.[5]
