Lawson Humphries (born 24 April 2003) is a professionalAustralian rules footballer who plays for theGeelong Football Club in theAustralian Football League (AFL).

Early career

Humphries is of Indigenous Australian heritage and grew up across northern Australia. He isNyul Nyul, Oomiday andWorrora.[1]

He started playing football in thePilbara for theWickham Wolves. Moving toPerth to attend boarding school atHale and be part of theWest Coast next generation academy,[2] he played inSwan DistrictsWest Australian Football League (WAFL) colts premiership in 2021,[3] and in the club's 2023 WAFL reserves premiership victory, before entering the AFL draft for a third time. He was awarded Swan District's 2023 reserves best and fairest.[4][5]

AFL career

Drafted byGeelong in the2023 AFL draft,[6] Humphries started the2024 season with the club'sVictorian Football League (VFL) team. After a strong game againstSydney in June, he made his AFL debut for Geelong in round 16 of the2024 AFL season againstEssendon.[7][8][9]

He received aRising Star nomination after round 18 of the 2024 season.[10]

Personal life

Humphries is studying anthropology and sociology atCurtin University.[11]
