Lawrence Mooney (born 22 April 1965[citation needed]) is an Australian comedian, actor, writer, and former television and radio presenter.

Radio career

Mooney has held various jobs including a customs officer, cleaner, salesman, furniture polisher and collecting golf balls at a driving range, before becoming a stand-up comic.[citation needed] He hosted the drive time show onMelbourne Talk Radio. He has also been a fill-in host and guest on MTR'sSteve Vizard Show andABC Radio Melbourne[1] and3AW.[citation needed] In 2016, he regularly appeared on theTriple M impersonating Former Prime MinisterMalcolm Turnbull with weekly spots on theSydney andMelbourne breakfast shows, and as a guest co-host onMerrick & Australia. He was part of the morning drive show onTriple M Brisbane from December 2017 to December 2018.[citation needed]

On 15 January 2019, Lawrence replacedThe Grill Team for Sydney Breakfast on Triple M withMoonman in the Morning, alongsideGus Worland,Chris Page and Jess Eva. In October 2019, Mooney won an Australian Commercial Radio Award (ACRA) for Best Entertainment Presenter[2] in a metro market. In November 2021,Southern Cross Austereo announced that Mooney had resigned from Triple M. Prior to Mooney's resignation, he had an unexplained absence fromMoonman in the Morning.[3]

Mooney is best known for his stand-up comedy career in such shows asLawrence of Suburbia at the 2012Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He was the winner of the Melbourne Fringe Best Comedy Award in 2011 and also made it to the semi-final in America onNBC’sLast Comic Standing in 2007.[citation needed]

Mooney featured regularly on such television series asSpicks and Specks,Can of Worms,The Einstein Factor,Denise,The Celebrity Chase,Studio 10,The Project,Have You Been Paying Attention? andHughesy, We Have a Problem. He has also had acting roles inThe Cup,Winners and Losers andConspiracy 365.[4]

In 2012, he appeared in the sketch comedy seriesProblems and conversational seriesThe Agony of Life.[5] In 2013, Mooney became the presenter ofDirty Laundry Live, a comedy panel game show on theABC.

In September 2016, Mooney co-hostedIn Rio Today, part of theSeven Network's coverage of the2016 Summer Paralympics, withMel McLaughlin andAnnabelle Williams.
