Lauren Jennifer King (born 1982)[1] is an American attorney who is aUnited States district judge of theUnited States District Court for the Western District of Washington.
King was born inOklahoma City. She earned aBachelor of Arts from theUniversity of Washington in 2004 and aJuris Doctor from theUniversity of Virginia School of Law in 2008.[2] King is a citizen of theMuscogee (Creek) Nation.[3]
King was an associate atK&L Gates from 2008 to 2009 and Byrnes Keller Cromwel from 2010 to 2012. She was aprincipal at Foster Garvey, P.C. based inSeattle,Washington, where she practiced from 2012 to 2021.[4] She served as apro tem appellate judge for the Northwest Intertribal Court System from 2013 to 2021. She was also appointed as a commissioner on theWashington State Gambling Commission. She previously taught Federal Indian Law at theSeattle University School of Law.[2][5]

On March 30, 2021, PresidentJoe Biden nominated King to serve as aUnited States district judge of theUnited States District Court for the Western District of Washington to the seat vacated by JudgeRobert S. Lasnik, who assumedsenior status on January 27, 2016.[6] On June 9, 2021, a hearing on her nomination was held before theSenate Judiciary Committee.[7] On July 15, 2021, her nomination was reported out of committee by a 13–9 vote.[8] On October 5, 2021, theUnited States Senate invoked cloture on her nomination by a 55–44 vote.[9] Her nomination was confirmed later that day by a 55–44 vote.[10] She received her judicial commission on December 7, 2021.[11] She was sworn in on December 15, 2021.[12] She is the firstNative-American federal judge to serve inWashington State.[13] She is the sixth Native American federal judge to serve in the United States.[14]
