Laura Katherine Delany (born 23 December 1992) is an Irishcricketer who currentlycaptainsTyphoons.[1][2] She is a right-handedbatter and right-armmedium pacebowler. Delany made her debut for Ireland in a Women's One-Day International (WODI) againstNew Zealand atKibworth Cricket Club New Ground in July 2010.[3] In July 2021, during Ireland'shome series against the Netherlands, Delany broke the captaincy record for her team, leading them for the 63rd time, passingIsobel Joyce's record of 62 matches as captain.[4]

In November 2021, Delany was named theICC Player of the Month.[5]

Biography

In April 2016, she was named as captain of Ireland replacingIsobel Joyce who stepped down after the2016 ICC Women's World Twenty20 inIndia.[6][7][8] In May 2017, she played in her 100th international match, when Ireland playedSouth Africa in the2017 South Africa Quadrangular Series.[9]

In June 2018, she was named as captain of Ireland for the2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament.[10] In October 2018, she was named as captain of Ireland's squad for the2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies.[11][12] The following month, she was named the Women's International Player of the Year at the annual Cricket Ireland Awards.[13]

In August 2019, she was named as the captain of Ireland's squad for the2019 ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament in Scotland.[14][15] In July 2020, she was awarded a part-time professional contract byCricket Ireland for the following year.[16]

In theWomen's Super Series, she played forDragons in 2015 and 2016, and captained them in 2016. She joinedTyphoons in 2017, and has captained them ever since, including to their first title in2020.[17][18][19]

In November 2021, she was named as the captain of Ireland's team for the2021 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe.[20] In September 2023, it was announced that Delany had signed forNorth West Thunder for the side's remainingRachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy matches.[21]

Delany was named in the Ireland squad for their T20I and ODItour to Bangladesh in November 2024.[22][23]
