Laksh Lalwani (born 19 April 1996), known mononymously asLakshya, is an Indian actor.[2] He played thetitular warrior in the period drama seriesPorus (2017–2018) and made his feature film debut with a starring role in the action filmKill (2023) which earned him theFilmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He has since starred as an aspiring actor in the satirical drama seriesThe Ba***ds of Bollywood forNetflix.

Career

Early television career (2015–2018)

In 2015, Lakshya made his acting debut with the television seriesWarrior High.[3] He followed this with the role of Yuvraj Madhav Shekhawat/Krish in the supernatural seriesAdhuri Kahaani Hamari (2015–2016) and briefly appeared inPyaar Tune Kya Kiya.[4]

In November 2016, Lakshya joinedEkta Kapoor's romantic drama seriesPardes Mein Hai Meraa Dil (2016–2017) in the supporting role of Veer Mehra, which proved to be his first breakthrough.[5][6] He gained further attention for his portrayal of thetitular warrior in the historical TV showPorus (2017–2018), which is among the most expensive Indian television shows in history.[7]

Film struggles and breakthrough (2019–present)

In 2019, Lakshya signed a three-film deal withKaran Johar'sDharma Productions and was cast in two romances,Dostana 2 andBedhadak which were both shelved due to issues during production.[8] Lakshya expressed the emotional toll the experience had on him and revealed his uncertainty about pursuing a career in films afterward.[9]

In 2024, Lakshya ultimately had his first film release with Dharma Productions' action filmKill, in which he played Amrit, a stoic army man who has to fight off dacoits in a running train. It premiered at the2023 Toronto International Film Festival and was theatrically released the following year to largely positive reviews, emerging as hisbreakthrough role.[10] Barry Hertz ofThe Globe and Mail wrote that he "conjures the hero with frightening ferocity".[11]Kill emerged as a box-office success and, for his performance, Lakshya earned several Best Male Debut awards, including theFilmfare Award for Best Male Debut.[12][13]

The following year, Lakshya led theNetflix satirical drama seriesThe Ba***ds of Bollywood directed byAryan Khan, which opened to positive reception.[14] Sahir Avik D’Souza ofThe Quint was appreciative of his performance as an aspiring actor navigating the Hindi film industry, as well as his chemistry with co-starSahher Bambba, but felt the supporting cast delivered stronger performances.[15] He will appear in the romanceChand Mera Dil oppositeAnanya Panday.[16]
