Lake Saroma (サロマ湖,Saroma-ko), alsoSaroma Lagoon,[1] is acoastal lagoon (hence a body ofbrackish water) inSaroma,Kitami, andYūbetsu. It is located inAbashiri Quasi-National Park. By area, the lake is thethird largest in Japan and the largest in Hokkaidō.

The name comes from theAinu place nameSaruomahetsu, meaning "place of manyMiscanthus reeds and rushes".[2]

Another nearby coastal lagoon isNotoro Lagoon, about 15 km (9.3 mi) to the east.
