Ladik is a municipality anddistrict ofSamsun Province,Turkey.[2] Its area is 541 km2,[3] and its population is 16,072 (2022).[1] It is on the site of the ancientLaodicea Pontica.[4] The mayor is Adnan Topal (AK Party).[citation needed]
Laodicea Pontica orLaodicea (Ancient Greek:Λαοδίκεια), alsotransliterated asLaodíceia andLaodíkeia, was aHellenistic town inPontus. The city was founded in the hills (elevation 1000 m) not far west of the lakeStiphane Limne, southwest ofAmisus (modern Samsun). It is the birthplace of the Albanian grand vizierTayyar Mehmed Pasha.[citation needed]
