Lachlan Murphy (born 4 December 1998) is a professionalAustralian rules footballer who last played forAdelaide in theAustralian Football League (AFL). He was drafted by Adelaide with their third selection and thirty-eighth overall in the2018 rookie draft.[1] He made his debut in the twelve point loss toEssendon atEtihad Stadium in the opening round of the 2018 season.[2]
Murphy grew up in the Melbourne suburb ofDiamond Creek. He started atAuskick level[3] with Diamond Creek Junior Football Club and attended primary school at Sacred Heart inDiamond Creek, Victoria. He went to high school atIvanhoe Grammar School. He grew up as aCollingwood supporter.
Murphy was the inaugural winner of theBrent Harvey Medal, awarded to the best and fairest player for theNorthern KnightsTAC Cup team in 2016.
Adelaide's reserves team signed Murphy in 2017 so that he could train with the AFL squad, and for the duration of the year played for the Crows in theSouth Australian National Football League (SANFL). He was drafted as a rookie the following year.[4]
After debuting with Adelaide in2018, Murphy became a regular in Adelaide's squad, eventually playing all but one game inAdelaide's 2023 season when the Crows were pushing for finals.
For his on-field perseverance, he was rewarded with an elevation into the senior side's leadership group prior to the2024 season.[4] He became the 60thCrow to play 100 games inround 2 of the same year.
While playing withAdelaide's reserves team in theSANFL, Murphy worked atFootball Park's Crowmania store, the club's merchandise retailer.[1]
In August 2024, Murphy announced his engagement to his partner Madison.[5] The couple announced that they are expecting their first child in June 2025.[6]
