Lachlan Weller (born 23 February 1996) is a professionalAustralian rules footballer playing for theGold Coast Football Club in theAustralian Football League (AFL). He previously played for theFremantle Football Club from 2015 to 2017.

Personal life

Originally fromBurnie inTasmania, Weller moved toGold Coast inQueensland at age 15 (2011) with his family, when his brotherMaverick was playing for theGold Coast Football Club. Lachie then joined theGold Coast Suns Academy, but did not qualify as a priority selection due to not fulfilling the length of residence requirements.[1]

During this time, he completed his schooling commitments atAll Saints Anglican School on theGold Coast and played junior football forBroadbeach as well asSouthport.[2] He was drafted by Fremantle with their first selection, number 13 overall, in the2014 AFL draft.[3]

Weller's cousin,Casey Barnes, is a country rock singer who is also based on the Gold Coast.[4]

Lachie is married to Nicola Hewitt and have two children.[5]

AFL career

After playing well forPeel Thunder Football Club in theWest Australian Football League, Weller made his debut in round 18 of the2015 AFL season againstGreater Western Sydney.[6] At the conclusion of the2017 AFL season, after playing 47 games for Fremantle, Weller requested a trade toGold Coast, subsequently being traded, along with pick 41 in the2017 AFL draft for pick 2.[7]

Weller has struggled through injury at Gold Coast, notably suffering 2 ACL ruptures, on in June 2022.[8] and also in 2023, just over 12 months later.[9]
