La Belle au bois dormant (French:[labɛl‿obwadɔʁmɑ̃];lit. 'TheSleeping Beauty in the Woods') is anopera in three acts byMichele Carafa to a Frenchlibretto byEugène de Planard after the tale byCharles Perrault.
It was first performed on 2 March 1825 at theSalle Le Peletier ofParis Opera. The famous tenorAdolphe Nourrit created the role of the Prince. Choreography was byPierre Gardel, and set design byPierre-Luc-Charles Cicéri.[1]
