Large tumor suppressor kinase 2 (LATS2) is anenzyme that in humans is encoded by theLATS2gene.[5][6]
This gene encodes aserine/threonine protein kinase belonging to the LATStumor suppressor family and participates in theHippo signaling pathway where it inactivates the effector proteins, YAP andWWTR1 (TAZ). The protein localizes tocentrosomes duringinterphase and early and latemetaphase. It interacts with the centrosomal proteinsaurora-A andajuba and is required for accumulation ofgamma-tubulin andspindle formation at the onset ofmitosis. It also interacts with anegative regulator ofp53 and may function in apositive feedback loop with p53 that responds tocytoskeleton damage. Additionally, it can function as acorepressor ofandrogen-responsive gene expression.[6]
