László Detre, bornDunst[1] (19 April 1906,Szombathely – 15 October 1974,Budapest) was aHungarian astronomer well known for his work onvariable stars.
Detre was the director for many years of theKonkoly Observatory in Budapest (assuming the role in 1943), a professor ofBudapest University, and editor of theInformation Bulletin of Variable Stars of theInternational Astronomical Union.[2][3][4]
Discovered in 1940, asteroid1538 Detre is named after him.
His two sons were prominent sailors:Szabolcs Detre (father of windsurferDiána Detre) andZsolt Detre.
