The satrapArbinas wearing akyrbasia .Nereid Monument .[ 1] Thekyrbasia (Old Persian :*kurpāsa ) was a type of headgear worn by thesatraps of theAchaemenid Empire .[ 2] It was later adopted by several post-Achaemenid dynasties, including the earlyArsacids ofParthia , the earlyAriarathids ofCappadocia , theOrontids ofSophene , and theFrataraka ofPersis .[ 3]
Thekyrbasia is sometimes erroneously referred to as abashlyk , theTurkic word (başlık inTurkish ) for a similar headgear used byCumans ,Kipchaks andTatars during theMiddle Ages .[ 4]
