Kyle Sanders is an American bass guitarist who was a member ofheavy metal supergroupHellyeah and is currently a member ofKerry King 's solo band.[ 1] He previously played forSkrew ,Medication ,Bloodsimple , andMonstrO . He is the brother ofMastodon bassistTroy Sanders ,[ 2] who he has occasionally collaborated with.[ 3] [ 4]
Sanders started playing bass in middle school, he taught himself by playing along to his favoritemetal bands.[ 5] His younger brother,Troy , also plays bass because of Kyle. His first notable band was theindustrial metal bandSkrew .[ 6]
He was an original member ofMedication , alongsideLogan Mader (guitar, vocals),Whitfield Crane (vocals), B. Blunt (guitar), andRoy Mayorga (drums).[ 7] The band recorded one album,Prince Valium (2002),[ 8] and one self-titled EP.[ 9]
Sanders was a founding member ofBloodsimple , originally founded under the name Fix 8,[ 10] alongside members ofVision of Disorder . With the band, he toured alongsideSuperjoint Ritual ,[ 11] Static-X ,[ 12] Soulfly ,[ 13] andAvenged Sevenfold .[ 14] Bloodsimple dispanded in 2008 after Vision of Disorder reunited.[ 15] [ 16]
After Bloodsimple broke up, Sanders co-foundedMonstrO along ex-Bloodsimple drummerBevan Davies and ex-Torche guitarist Juan Montoya.[ 16] This band went on hiatus in 2014 after Sanders joinedHellyeah .[ 17]
Sanders joined Hellyeah in 2014 as a replacement forBob Zilla .[ 17] He joined alongside Christian Brady, who replaced founding memberGreg Tribbett .[ 18] Sanders was also joined in Hellyeah by Roy Mayorga,[ 19] who he had played with in Medication, following the death of founding drummerVinnie Paul .[ 20] The band went on hiatus in 2021.[ 21]
In February 2024, Sanders was announced as bassist for Slayer guitaristKerry King 's solo band,[ 1] playing on his debut albumFrom Hell I Rise and the single "Idle Hands".[ 22]
Sanders andVinnie Paul performing withHellyeah at See-Rock Festival 2014 Sanders is the owner of Let There Be Rock School, where students from ages 5–70 are taught,[ 5] as well as BlackStrap Rock Hall- a music venue geared specifically towards rock & metal genres; both are located inGainesville, Georgia . He said that he founded this venture to get away from his touring life.[ 5]
