In 2006,[5] Joy Krishna Halder ofSUCI(C) won the Kultali Assembly constituency defeating his nearest rival Ramsankar Halder ofCPI(M). Probodh Purkait ofSUCI(C) won from 1977 to 2001, defeating Ramsankar Halder ofCPI(M) in 2001[6] and 1996,[7] Ramani Ranjan Das ofCPI(M) in 1991,[8] Arabinda Naskar ofINC in 1987[9] and 1982,[10] and Anandi Tanti ofJanata Party in 1977.[11][12]
Arabinda Naskar ofINC won in 1972.[13] Probodh Purkait ofSUCI(C) won in 1971,[14] 1969[15] and 1967.[16] The seat did not exist prior to that.
