Kota Sekifuda (関札皓太,Sekifuda Kōta) is a Japaneseprofessional wrestler currently working for the JapanesepromotionBig Japan Pro Wrestling (BJW), where he is a formerBJW Junior Heavyweight Champion.[3]

As a freelancer, Sekifuda is known for his matches in various promotions. During a brief time in theAmerican independent scene, he made his US debut atIGNITE Wrestling in April 2016, appearing on a card featuringSerpentico,Mr 450, andLio Rush.[4] He also wrestled in a20-person battle royal promoted byRing Warriors on May 14, 2016, at theRing Warriors May Mayhem event, also involvingRob Terry,Mr. 450,Steve Madison and other notable opponents.[5]

Japanese circuit (2015–present)

Sekifuda competed in theJapanese independent scene for most of his career. On December 30, 2019, at ahouse show ofOriental Wrestling Entertainment (OWE), he teamed up withYuya Aoki in a losing effort to Mr. T-Cool andSeiki Yoshioka.[6] At theToshiwasure! Shuffle Tag Tournament 2019, a one night event promoted byBig Japan Pro Wrestling in partnership withDramatic Dream Team, Sekifuda teamed up withSoma Takao and wrestledRyuichi Kawakami andT-Hawk in a time-limit draw in a first round match.[7]

AtBJW/ZERO1/2AW 3 Groups Joint Performance, a cross-over event produced byBig Japan Pro Wrestling (BJW),Pro Wrestling Zero1 (Zero1) andActive Advance Pro Wrestling (2AW) on August 11, 2020, he teamed up withDrew Parker,Takuya Sugawara andTatsuhiko Yoshino in a losing effort to Kaji Tomato,Ricky Fuji,Shoki Kitamura andSugi in aneight-man tag team match.[8] AtBJW/ZERO1 Clash, a cross-over event produced byBig Japan Pro Wrestling andPro Wrestling Zero1 on October 30, 2020, Sekifuda teamed up withHartley Jackson and defeatedTakuya Sugawara andYasufumi Nakanoue in atag team match.[9]

AtGLEAT Fan Meeting In Sapporo, an event promoted by theGleat promotion on May 5, 2021, Parker teamed up withDrew Parker in a losing effort toCima andKaz Hayashi.[10]

Big Japan Pro Wrestling (2014–present)

Sekifuda made hisprofessional wrestling debut on the second night of theBJW Nai Nippon Summer Ueno Pro-Wrestling Festival from August 6, 2014, where he teamed up with Yuichi Taniguchi in a losing effort against Toshiyuki Sakuda andKazuki Hashimoto.[11] He unsuccessfully competed for theYokohama Shopping Street 6-Man Tag Team Championship by teaming up withRyuichi Kawakami andTatsuhiko Yoshino atBJW Ehime Sake Shop Wrestling in Saijo on May 19, 2018, in a losing effort toRyota Hama,Yasufumi Nakanoue and Yoshihisa Uto.[12] AtBJW Ueno Park Convention on February 1, 2020, he competed in a20-man battle royal also involvingYuji Okabayashi,Brahman Kei and Brahman Shu,Hideyoshi Kamitani and others.[13] On July 22, 2021, atBJW Yokohama Radiant Hall Tournament, Sekifuda defeatedIsami Kodaka to win his first title in his career, theBJW Junior Heavyweight Championship.[14]

Sekifuda is known for competing in signature events promoted byBJW. One of them is theSaikyo Tag League, making his first appearance at the2018 edition of the tournament where he teamed up withTatsuhiko Yoshino, placing themselves in the Strong Style Block and scoring a total of six points after facing the teams ofRyota Hama andYasufumi Nakanoue,Daichi Hashimoto andHideyoshi Kamitani,Ryuichi Kawakami andKazumi Kikuta,Hideki Suzuki andDaisuke Sekimoto,Takuya Nomura andFuminori Abe, andKazuki Hashimoto andYuya Aoki.[15]

Sekifuda took part in aBJW Junior Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender's Tournament to determineShinobu's challenger between June 13 and July 17, 2018, where he defeatedTsutomu Oosugi in thefirst round and then fell short toKazuki Hashimoto in the second round.[16]

Other information

The surname of Sekifuda is rare with only around 10 people in Japan carrying the name. Sekifuda has said that he has never met anyone outside of his family with the same surname.[17]
