Kosmos 391 (Russian:Космос 391 meaningCosmos 391), also known asDS-P1-I No.11 was asatellite which was used as aradar target foranti-ballistic missile tests. It was launched by theSoviet Union in 1971 as part of theDnepropetrovsk Sputnik programme.[1]

Launch

It was launched aboard aKosmos-2I 63SM rocket,[2] fromSite 133/1 atPlesetsk. The launch occurred at 12:00:00 UTC on 14 January 1971.[3]

Orbit

Kosmos 391 was placed into alow Earth orbit with aperigee of 267 kilometres (166 mi), anapogee of 803 kilometres (499 mi), 70.9 degrees ofinclination, and anorbital period of 95.3 minutes.[1] Itdecayed from orbit on 21 February 1971.[4]

Kosmos 391 was the tenth of nineteenDS-P1-I satellites to be launched.[1] Of these, all reached orbit successfully except theseventh.[5]
