Koothattukulam is amunicipality of Kerala state, India[3] in theErnakulam district. It is 32 km (19.9 mi) south of the district headquarters inThrikkakara and about 156 km (96.9 mi) north of the state capitalThiruvananthapuram. As per the2011 Indian census, Koothattukulam has a population of 17,253 people, and a population density of 755/km2 (1,960/sq mi). It is at the junction of Ernakulam, Kottayam, and Idukki districts, in the foothills of the Western Ghats and is part of the Keezhmalanad region.
The town comprises five main localities: Koothattukulam, Vadakara, Paittakulam, Kizhakombu andEdayar.[citation needed]
