Krishna Prasad Koirala was the first prominent member of this family.

Koirala family (Nepali: कोइराला परिवार) is one of the most prominentpolitical families of Nepal. TheKoirala family areKhasBahuns (HillBrahmins)[1] and were original inhabitants ofDumja village in theSindhuli district of theBagmati Province ofNepal.[2]

Krishna Prasad Koirala, aRana-era socio-political activist, was exiled toBihar, India by then Prime Minister MaharajaChandra Sumsher.[3] Four members of the family, including three brothers (Matrika Prasad Koirala,B. P. Koirala andGirija Prasad Koirala) and their maternal cousinSushil Koirala, have beenPrime Ministers of Nepal.
