Yaakov "Kobi" Marimi (Hebrew:קובי מרימי; born October 8, 1991) is an Israeli singer and actor. Having won the sixth season of the singing competitionHaKokhav HaBa, he representedIsrael in theEurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "Home".
Yaakov (Kobi) Marimi was born and raised inRamat Gan,Israel, to Dalit and Eli Marimi.[1][2][3] He served as a soldier in theIsrael Defense Forces (IDF) at theAdjutant Corps. He studied in theNissan Nativ Acting Studio.[4] Marimi resides inTel Aviv. He has worked as a pub host and movie theater cashier.[5]
During his studies he appeared in the playsThe Caucasian Chalk Circle,The Comic Illusion andPrayer.[6]After graduating from Nissan Nativ he performed inEvery Living Thing Needs,Chambaloo's Treasure and performed the role ofNatan inMessiah Now for which he won the Promising Actor Award at the 2017 Musical Celebrations inBat Yam. This was hisIsraeli Opera debut.[6] Marimi won the award for the most promising actor in Israel's Musical Theatre Festival.[5]
Marimi won thesixth season ofHaKokhav HaBa. This earned him the right to represent his country in theEurovision Song Contest 2019 on home soil inTel Aviv.[7] His entry "Home", which was internally selected, finished in 23rd place in the final with 35 points.[8]
In June 2019, Marimi started performing as Earnest in the production ofSpring Awakening at the Israeli National Theater, "Habima".
In September 2019, Marimi released his debut single, "Yalla Bye".
On January 26 2020, Marimi released his third single, "Lo Levad".
