Knipolegus is agenus of South American birds, theblack tyrants, in the tyrant flycatcher familyTyrannidae.

The genus was erected by the German zoologistFriedrich Boie in 1826 with theblue-billed black tyrant as thetype species.[1][2] The genus name combines theAncient Greekknips meaning "insect" andlegō meaning "to pick".[3]
