Clytius (Ancient Greek : Κλυτίος), also spelledKlythios ,Klytios ,Clytios , andKlytius , is the name of multiple people inGreek mythology :
Clytius, one of theGiants , sons ofGaia , killed byHecate during the Gigantomachy, the battle of the Giants versus theOlympian gods .[ 1] [ 2] Clytius, an alternative name forClytoneus , the son ofNaubolus ofArgos and father ofNauplius II.[ 3] Clytius, son ofAgriopas and grandson ofCyclops . He fought in the war betweenEumolpus andEleusis and fell alongside Eumolpus' sonImmaradus andEgremus , son ofEurynomus .[ 4] Clytius, theAthenian father ofPheno who married KingLamedon of Sicyon.Ianiscus , descendant of this Clytius, became king inSicyon afterAdrastus .[ 5] Clytius, a man killed byPerseus in the battle againstPhineus .[ 6] Clytius, a warrior in the army ofDionysus during the god's Indian campaign. He was killed byCorymbasus .[ 7] Clytius, anArgonaut and anOechalian prince as son of KingEurytus [ 8] andAntiope [ 9] orAntioche ,[ 10] and thus brother toIole ,Toxeus ,Deioneus ,Molion ,Didaeon andIphitos .[ 11] According toHyginus , he was killed byAeetes , if the text is not corrupt;[ 12] according toDiodorus Siculus , however, he was killed byHeracles during the latter's war against Eurytus.[ 8] Clytius, in a rare version of the myth, a son ofPhineus and brother ofPolymedes : the two brothers killed Phineus' second,Phrygian , wife (Idaea ?) at the instigation ofCleopatra .[ 13] Clytius, a Trojan prince as the son of KingLaomedon and brother of the later rulerPriam . He was also one of the Elders ofTroy during the siege of the city.[ 14] ByLaothoe ,[ 15] he was the father ofCaletor ,[ 16] Procleia [ 17] andPronoe orPronome , of whom the latter was the mother ofPolydamas byPanthous .[ 18] Clytius, son ofAlcmaeon andAlphesiboea . He moved fromPsophis toElis in order to escape his mother's vengeful brothers. The Clytidae, a clan of soothsayers, claimed descent from him.[ 19] According toStephanus of Byzantium , his mother wasTriphyle , theeponym ofTriphylia .[ 20] Clytius, each of the three namesakes among theSuitors ofPenelope : one fromDulichium ,[ 21] another fromSame ,[ 22] and the third fromZacynthus .[ 23] These men asked the hand in marriage of Penelope but suffered the same fate at the hands of the heroOdysseus . The latter shot all of them dead with the aid ofEumaeus ,Philoetius , andTelemachus .[ 24] Clytius, an attendant ofTelemachus inHomer 'sOdyssey , the father of Telemachus' friendPeiraeus .[ 25] Dolops , a Greek warrior killed byHector in theIliad , could also have been his son.[ 26] Clytius, one of the sons ofAeolus who followedAeneas toItaly and was killed byTurnus .[ 27] Clytius, father ofEuneus (one of those killed in the battle between Aeneas and Turnus).[ 28] Clytius, a young soldier in the army ofTurnus who was loved byCydon inVirgil 'sAeneid , and was killed byAeneas .[ 29] Clytius, father ofAcmon andMenestheus fromLyrnessus ,Phrygia .[ 30] To these can be added several figures not mentioned in extant literary sources and only known from various vase paintings:[ 31] [ 32]
