Kittu Puttu (pronunciationⓘ) is a 1977 IndianKannada-languagecomedy drama film directed byC. V. Rajendran and produced byDwarakish. The film starsVishnuvardhan,[1]Dwarakish,Manjula, K. Vijaya andVaishali Kasaravalli.[2] The film was widely appreciated for its songs and story upon release. The songs composed byRajan–Nagendra were huge hits.
The movie is a remake of 1967 Tamil movieAnubavi Raja Anubavi which was also earlier remade in Hindi in 1973 asDo Phool.Kittu Puttu went on to also inspire the 1993 Hindi movieAankhen.[3] The Tamil movie was also remade inMarathi asChangu Mangu (1990) and had one of the characters singing a Kannada songNaa Ninna Jeeva Ramanna which comes at the same sequence asMaatonda Heluve in this movie.[4]
The dual role played byNagesh was reprised byMehmood in the Hindi version and byDwarakish in the Kannada version. Earlier, the triple role played by Nagesh inPanakkara Kudumbam was reprised by Mehmood in the Hindi version (Humjoli) and by Dwarakish in the Kannada version (Bhale Huduga).
The music of the film was composed byRajan–Nagendra and lyrics written byChi. Udaya Shankar. The song "Nille Gowramma" and "Kaalvannu Thadeyoru" were received extremely well.[citation needed] The latter song (Kaalavannu Thadeyoru) was set in RagaBageshri, which was reused retaining the same lyrics and tune in the filmApthamitra (2004) by music directorGurukiran.
