Kimiko Glenn (born June 27, 1989)[1] is an American actress and singer. She started her career on stage in the late 2000s, touring as Thea in the musicalSpring Awakening from 2008 to 2010, and made her screen debut in 2012. From 2014 to 2019, Glenn starred as Brook Soso in theNetflix seriesOrange Is the New Black, for which she received three consecutiveScreen Actors Guild Awards. She originated the role of Dawn Pinkett in the musicalWaitress onBroadway in 2016.
Glenn concurrently acted in the thriller filmNerve (2016) and voicedPeni Parker in theanimatedSpider-Verse trilogy (2018–present). She has also voiced roles in a number of other animated media, including the filmOver the Moon (2020) and television projects such asDuckTales (2017–2021),Voltron: Legendary Defender (2017–2018),Summer Camp Island (2018–2023), and thetitular character inBaby Shark's Big Show! (2020–2025). For the latter, she earned a nomination at the3rd Children's and Family Emmy Awards.
Glenn was born and raised inPhoenix, Arizona, with her sister, Amanda. Her mother, Sumiko, is Japanese, and her father, Mark, is of Scottish, Irish, and German descent.[2][3] Glenn began acting at theValley Youth Theatre in Phoenix and several other local theaters when she was infifth grade.[4] She attendedDesert Vista High School in Phoenix and theInterlochen Arts Academy boarding school inInterlochen, Michigan.[5] She is a 2007YoungArts alumnus.[6] She attended theBoston Conservatory for a year as a musical theatre major, but dropped out when she was cast in the touring company ofSpring Awakening.[4]
During her freshman year of college, in 2008, Glenn was cast as Thea in the first U.S. national tour ofSteven Sater's andDuncan Sheik's rock musicalSpring Awakening. In 2013, she booked her breakthrough role as Litchfield Penitentiary inmate Brook Soso in theNetflix comedy-drama seriesOrange Is the New Black,[7] for which she receivedScreen Actors Guild Awards in 2014, 2015, and 2016 forOutstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
In 2014, Glenn appeared in theLena Dunham-directed music video "I Wanna Get Better" forJack Antonoff's solo projectBleachers.[8]
Glenn played the supporting role of Liv Kurosawa in the drama-thriller filmNerve (2016), directed byHenry Joost andAriel Schulman[9] and based on the young adultnovel of the same name. In 2016, she was cast as Dawn Pinkett in theBroadway transfer production of the musicalWaitress. The show began preview performances on March 25, 2016, at theBrooks Atkinson Theatre, and officially opened on April 24.[10]
In 2018, Glenn began starring as Harlow in the comedy Web television seriesLiza on Demand, with Travis Coles and creatorLiza Koshy.[11] In 2019, she was a guest presenter withNev Schulman on the MTV showCatfish.[12]
In 2021, Glenn provided the voice of Izzy Moonbow in the Netflix animated filmMy Little Pony: A New Generation.[13]
In 2023, Glenn began voicing Kiff Chatterley, the eponymous protagonist of theDisney Channel animated original seriesKiff.[14]
In 2024, Glenn began voicing Niffty and Susan inHazbin Hotel.[15]
Glenn began releasing music under the stage name KIMIKO in July 2025.[16]
Glenn released her debut single entitled "Oh Honey" on July 2, 2025.[17]Glenn released the single entitled "Hang Out Forever?" on Novemeber 14, 2025.[18] The official music video was released the same day and the lyric video was released on November 21, 2025.[19][20]
Glenn is apescatarian.[21][22] In 2023, she spoke out on social media about unfair residuals during theSAG-AFTRA strike, revealing that she had only been paid $27.30 in royalties after appearing in 44 episodes of the Netflix seriesOrange Is the New Black.[23]
