Kimani Aidan Stewart-Baynes (born January 17, 2005) is a professionalsoccer player who plays forMajor League Soccer clubColorado Rapids. Born in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, he represents Canada at youth international level.
Stewart-Bayes was born inKingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and grew up in Toronto, Canada.[1] He played youth soccer withVaughan Azzurri and helped them win theLeague1 Ontario U19 Reserve Division in 2022.[2]
In April 2023, he committed to attendMaryland University to play for themen's soccer team.[3] He made his collegiate debut in the season opener on August 24 against theMissouri State Bears.[4] He scored his first goal in the next match on August 27 against theUNC Greensboro Spartans.[5] At the end of his freshman season, he was named theBig Ten Conference Freshman of the Year and was selected to the All-Freshman Team.[6][7] He was then invited to participate in the MLS College Showcase ahead of the2024 MLS SuperDraft.[8] In fourteen matches in his sole season, he scored three goals and added seven assists.[9]
In March 2023, Stewart-Baynes signed a developmental contract with theHFX Wanderers of theCanadian Premier League.[1][10]
In December 2023 ahead of the2024 MLS SuperDraft, Stewart-Baynes signed aGeneration Adidas contract withMajor League Soccer.[11][12] At the draft, he was selected in the first round (fourth overall) by theColorado Rapids.[13][14] Stewart-Baynes made his professional debut inMLS Next Pro forColorado Rapids 2 on March 17 againstSt. Louis City 2.[15] On March 23, he made his MLS debut against theHouston Dynamo, entering as a late substitute in an eventual 1-0 defeat.[16]
In February 2024, Stewart-Baynes was named to theCanada U20 squad for the 2024CONCACAF Under-20 Championship qualifiers.[17] In July 2024, he was named to the final roster for thetournament.[18]
